Timeline Evolution of DTS and IT

DTS has grown along with the development of society.
Here we chronicle the growth of DTS over the past 50 years along with the progress in the computer and IT industries.

In order to make the history of DTS easier to understand, the chronological list is shown according to time periods since our foundation. This may cause some discrepancies between the items shown in the decades of the menu.

1995-2001Restructuring of business organization

Restructured organization and structure for further business expansion

Head Office Building(No.02)

From around this time, downsizing from mainframes to computers and the move to open systems in all industries accelerated rapidly. As LAN technology progressed and the Internet proliferated, the concept of distributed processing based on the client/server system was adopted.
Inspired by social changes such as the financial big bang (deregulation, major reforms in financial and securities systems, etc.) that began in the late 1990s and the shift to multimedia in the telecommunications industry, we steadily expanded our business in the financial and telecommunications fields, i.e. our strong areas, to be listed on the second section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and then on the first section.

  • History of DTS

    1997

    Constructed first Head Office Building

In 1997, we opened our first company building (Head Office No 2 Building). Aiming for efficient business execution, we conducted building construction from the design phase for the first time.
We then opened our Head Office No. 3 Building in Shimbashi 5-chome, Minato-ku, and took this as an opportunity to upgrade the internal network.

  • 1998

Sales growth due to the financial system reforms and multimedia support in the communications industry

During this period, DTS received more orders for software development for multimedia support in the deregulated financial and telecommunications industries. DTS established a Network Systems Division to provide total services ranging from network-related proposal sales to maintenance.
In 1999, DTS's sales grew due to network construction from financial institutions and switching system software development from electronics manufacturers. In 2000, DTS received orders to develop software for financial merger support and defined contribution pension plans. DTS worked on new developments in response to changes in society, including receiving orders from manufacturers for software development and network operation and management for next-generation mobile phones.

  • 1999

Listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange finally

In 1997, 10 years after we began preparations to go public in 1987, we were listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and two years later in 1999, we were listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It was our long-sought goal since our foundation.

    Challenges in new fields

We were contracted for the first time to develop embedded software (firmware) for a manufacturer. This new order in the embedded systems business led to the expansion of the embedded software field and the establishment of DTS INSIGHT.

  • 2000

October 2000Established KYUSHU DATA TSUSHIN SYSTEM CORPORATION (currently KYUSHU DTS CORPORATION)

It was the first subsidiary that we established.

Launch of in-house developed software and support for major banking systems

In 2000, we started sales of “Walk in home,” an in-house developed 3D active presentation software. We also participated for the first time in Construction Xross, which exhibits and introduces new technologies and construction methods developed by construction industry companies.
In 2001, a major bank's information infrastructure system reconstruction project was started.

    Self-developed software “Walk in home”

History of DTS

  • IT Industry

This is what happened in the 1990s

Microsoft released Windows 95 in 1995. The number of Internet users exploded thanks in part to the Internet Explorer web browser being included as a standard feature. Windows-based PCs were being introduced in offices, and networking using LANs increased. This growth of internet use birthed provider businesses that offered application services through the internet. However, security issues gradually became apparent.
In the late 1990s, there was also a need to address the Y2K bug, in which systems misrepresented, malfunctioned, or stopped when processing data after the year 2000.

  • Computers

This is what happened in the 1990s

The broadband era had arrived with the integration of LANs and the internet.
Around 1996, CATV lines appeared in place of conventional fixed telephone lines and the Internet using ISDN networks. ADSL lines appeared in 1999 and optical fiber lines in 2000, but it was not until the middle of the 2000s that they come to widely use at ordinary households.
With the emergence of these new communication lines, companies come to use their lines mainly based on Internet (including VPNs) in place of leased lines.

  • Development
    environment

This is what happened in the 1990s

In an era when hardware was expensive, the easy-to-use C language was preferred to utilize limited memory space. On the other hand, as hardware became more advanced and less expensive, the need for an environment that allows efficient development became more important than being conscious of memory space. Java, an object-oriented language created in 1995, dominated in this historical context. In 1998, the development environment Java Development Kit (JDK) was provided and greatly streamlined development work.
In addition, JavaScript, a scripting language, also appeared. It was implemented on a web browser and used for dynamic processing on the client side in 1997.
Further, a lot of open source software was released during this period. Software such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and Apache, was also created during this period, which supports today’s web services.
